As the first of its kind, ALMASIKA was honored to be part of SOTHEBY'S two selling exhibitions in NEW YORK and LONDON dedicated to showcasing the extraordinary skill, imagination and craftsmanship of jewelry designers.

Curated in partnership with celebrated writer, author and stylist MELANIE GRANT, the selling exhibition — the most ambitious to date — presented a selection of jewels of exceptional artistry, quality and historical importance.

At Art Basel Conversations,Journeys across Diasporas: Collecting African Art, Catherine Sarr (CEO of ALMASIKA and Co-Founder of the SARR Prize), actress CCH Pounder, and Julie Crooks (Curator/Head of Arts of Global Africa and the Diaspora at the Art Gallery of Ontario) joined moderator Larry Ossei-Mensah (Curator and Co-Founder of ARTNOIR) to discuss the evolution of collecting African art. The panel explored how collecting often begins locally before expanding to global projects, highlighting the personal and professional journeys that connect collectors, galleries, and international initiatives. The Way of Time (2022), Calida Rawles's large-scale mural, was unveiled at the SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, during the Super Bowl 2022.  The painting regally portrays Rawles’ friend Regina R. Robertson outfitted in a custom dress and ALMASIKA jewelry — Le Cauri Shoulder Dusters and Universum Cuff.

The SARR Collection

With a large focus on contemporary photography—from works by renown artists such as Carrie Mae Weems, Toshio Shibata, Seydou Keita, Lorna Simpson, Samuel Fosso, Lorraine O'Grady and Zanele Muholi— the Sarr collection spans over seventy years of production, crossing over into mediums of painting and sculpture with work from iconic artists such Ousmane Sow, Chris Ofili and Bruce Onobrakpeya. The collection also focuses on young and emerging artists such Mimi Ng'ok Cherono, Nate Young, Julien Creuzet, Joel Degbo, Bilal Hamdad, Dewadi Hadjad and Fabien Conti.

The SARR Prize

The SARR Prize presents three awards annually to current Les Beaux-Arts Paris students for excellence in a body of artistic work. The prize supports the vision and philosophy of the Sarr Collection. As Patron of the arts, Catherine and Mamadou-Abou Sarr believe that it is critical to support and empower young artists at an early stage in their practices. The Prize is juried by a group of distinguished curators, artists and private collectors with overlapping expertise and passion in visual arts. .
